Clown Hormone?

This may be silly thinking on my part, but here goes. I have 5 clown loaches, 3 1/2 to 4 inches. I also have 5 H. Rasboas in the same tank. I have read that the biggest clown will give off a hormone that causes the other to not grow as fast. Can that affect other fish as well?????? The rasboas are about 6 months old and not much bigger than a medium size neon. I have rasboas in a different tank, and they are 3 times bigger. Am I crazy for thinking the clowns might have something to do with their slow growth, or have I got dwarf rasboas?????????
Any ideas????
Anna D.
