Dojo behavior

I got one Gold Dojo on impulse because I had not seen them in a while, and I've never had one before.
It swims around the tank, then stops near the water line at the top, motionless, like it is playing a game of "freeze", holds motionless, head up, like a statue, and starts to slowly sink thru the water column.
Then when it sinks more than halfway down the tank wall, it suddenly "unfreezes" and quickly swims back up to the top. Sometimes it stays motionless and sinks all the way to the substrate, and when it's tail hits the bottom it instantly darts back into action. This guy is either turned "on" or "off", not much inbetween!

Is this guy stressed out? Or just bored?
