Clown loach question

Hi, just double checking before I mix my community...
#1, I have 3 rather deliquient clowns in QT right now with a dozen small tetras. My lfs said they were perfect for the setups I plan for summer. I am almost worried they might harrass my baby black ghost since they are near to his size. The guy wants me to take his great huge one with the discus' later to use for my polypterus. It looks like a whiskered oscar!
#2, Should I get him for later? And just divide him away from my baby polly til he catches up? Or do clowns have short lives? If they live long then this guy is safe from my polly for years. I don't think a polypterus will eat a 9ish inch long fish. And if if might the clown can move in with the other clowns at that time. My botias are all small fry like my fish.

Are clowns known to slurp down roomies? Or only way wee ones like fry or neons? My skunk botias are skittery lil t
