Should large lone clown loach be given a friend?

Hi, I have a 3.5 yr.old Clown Loach who's "friend" died about 1.5 years ago and since that time he/she has been the only one of that breed in my 27 gallon tank.
There are two equally aged Corydoras and 5 Platys as well as one small breed Pleco.
Can I introduce another Clown Loach to the tank as a companion to the first or should I leave well alone after all this time?
When the other Clown Loach was alive it appeared to me that the dominant survivor prevented the other from eating and I do not want that to happen again.
Thanks, Diana.
