Hillstream Loach

When I purchased my two hillstream loaches 6 months ago I was informed by the bloke in the shop that they were cold water plecs, being a novice I took his word for this, since then I have found them to be weather loaches, is there any truth in what I was told as I do think they look like plecs, but thought plecs were a type of catfish?
