are dojo/weather loaches territorial

i think i spelled that word wrong. anyway i found my smaller dojo dead after i jus bought it the next morning. When i looked at it closer it's fins looked like they had been bitten. It looked real beat up. My larger dojo is the only other fish in the tank, and is only about a half inch longer. I wanted to know if dojo loaches are territorial to others of there species. i thought the beat up look might have come from rubbing on the gravel or something like that. i never saw it do that, but i heard that these types of fish do that.
