Bleaching plants

Was wondering something and thought maybe someone knows or may have tried this. I have some Anubias and some java ferns that have that black/green hair algae on them. No Algae anywhere except on those plants. Ive used the bleach method before. 1 part bleach and 20 parts water then rinsed the crap out of the plants. Always worked real well. Now the question. Some of them are fully attached to driftwood. Big peices of driftwood. Can the whole thing be put in the bleach solution or do the plants have to be removed? The way im seeing it it would be to hard to rinse the driftwood totally clean. Dunno. Any Opinions? Ty
