Adding salt to dojos tank (and ich)

Good lord I need some input.
I have 2 dojo loaches that I have had for 12 years (only fish I have). Recently moved them to a 29-gallon tank (has fully cycled). Now they have what looks like little white hairs all over their bodies (developed over the past week). The only advice I have received is to treat with Kordon's "Rid-Ich" and to add salt at 1 tbsp per 5 gal (I have *never* done either before and am very nervous about it).

Does this sound safe?

*Should* salt be added to a dojo tank?

Could the ich treatment harm them?

I am really attached to these guys, they've been with me since I was a child. Any and all advice/input is greatly appreciated.

Thank you kindly in advance.
