Disease Question

I am bemused - I keep many different loaches, but recently I have lost all of the fish in one tank to a disease which I cannot identify.

The fish do not display any physical signs of a problem until the final stage when they suddenly start gasping and when the fish die they are covered in a horrible white mucus that breaks of when you remove the fish. None of the other fish in the tank are affected. I even kept my other loaches out of the tank in question for several weeks and only recently put two more fish in the tank and they were both dead within two weeks. My cordoras and characins are unaffected. Any help would be much appreciated - I have lost too many good fish and it is becoming very frustrating.
