questions on setting up river tank

Hi there,
About 2 weeks ago I found a used tank outside my apt. I foolishly thought it was a 30 gallon tank and just today I did a search at thekrib.com and found out that that tank is a 40 gallon breeder..
Yesterday I went to a LFS in Idaho and to my surprise they have a few Beufortia (hope I spelled it right) in their DIRTY tank...
I did a lot of thinking today. Since I found that 40 g. tank I thought I could set up a river tank for those Beaufortia(s). I've read the articles on the river tank here and there are couple of problems that kinda bothered me.
