Brook loach variations...

Hi y'all. I've been speculating on the idea of perverting the river tank set up to accommodate brook loaches. That is, I have too many fish in my 20 river tank, and the true hillstream loaches love it. The brook loaches (Nemacheilines) seem not to require the fast flow. The Balitorids clamp onto rocks directly in the water flow, but the others spend much of their time hiding out of the fast flow.
One idea I had was to plumb a regular 20 gallon tank (as opposed to a 20 long) so that the circulation was intense, but without the unidirectional flow. Even just mounting two powerheads so that there is a whirlpool effect... I don't know. I think I would keep the Schi
