Q2: decent taxonomy reference?

Could anybody recommend a decent guide to the taxonomy of loaches?

f'r'instance, at the moment I'm worrying about the difference between misgurnus & cobitis (why aren't weatherfish cobitis? what makes them different?), and am also concerned about the fact that fishbase lists pangio javanicus as an invalid synonym of pangio oblonga (actually, so does Aquabase, which is French and may or may not be related) and some other images I've dug up that look exactly like "pangio javanicus" are listed as pangio pangia.

I'd also like to know randomly and pointlessly obscure things, like do fish which to the naked eye are identical apart form markings (eg misgurnus species) have different numbers of barbels and are they fertile with each other? I don't need to know
