Homaloptera smithi

I have been looking at the H. smithi at the shop and noticed that some have different colouration to others. Some of them have red markings on the bottom edges of their pectoral and pelvic fins and also on the tail. Others do not seem to have this red colour. Also I have noticed that some have about 4 red coloured 'bristles' extending from the top of the head area, yet others are greeny coloured. Is this a sexual difference, regional colour variation, or even a different species? This is the first time I have imported these fish, so hoping someone can help here.
Thanks,
Emma
