I just realised that you are the same Emma Turner who wrote the letter to PFK about the bad advice on loach 'skinny disease'. Thankyou, thankyou! Sorry for not aknowledging you in the first instance but it was only when I looked again at the article that I made the connection.
That is where I found out about the existence of such a thing as this 'skinny disease' in the first place. Up to then I hadjust just put it down to some kind of natural variation or kind of loachy hierarchy which could lead to some not getting as much food as others. But what I couldn't understand was that the skinny loaches seemed to eat just as much as their bigger friends but still not get any fatter. I have got some Levamisole and am currently on the second round of dosing after reading replies to my initial post from Barbara and Bigpow (thanks guys!). The pharmacy at a local vet was quite happy to supply the product but could't really suggest much on the dosage issue - thats how I came across this forum when searching for info.

It is really good that PFK published your letter; I bet there are many more grateful UK loach owners apart from me. It is sad that the original advice given to the owner of the sick loach was quite so dismissive and unhelpful :( Makes me worry sometimes...

Thankyou again,
Tracy (Norwich, UK)
