A sand query from the UK

Does anyone know a good UK source of black (or at least dark) sand that would be safe for loaches and Corys. Or infact safe sand of any colour - I'm guessing that 'pool sand' isn't quite so widely available here.
I use the tiny grade pea gravel (appx 3-5mm)in my tanks because all the sand I've found in aquatic shops nearby has seemed a bit gritty and sharp to me. The gravel seemed alot softer on my hands when I was rinsing it.
If not black sand, then is there any black, safe tiny gravel available in bulk - preferably not costing silly money.
I live in Norwich so somewhere in East Anglia would be best but I also occasionally travel to Gloucestershire along the A11-A14-M6-M42-M5
