Smelly Water

Hi !

I have now setup a 450 litres aquarium about 10 days ago. I have got some gravel, a few plants, a branch of a vine tree, and a small piece of bark wood.

The water has been very cloudy, a foamy layer had developed at the top of the water, which have now gone brownish and rather smelly. I have removed the majoraty of it with a net.

However the water remains cloudy, still a bit smelly. I am thinking to empty the aquarium again and start all over.

I have never used bark wood, or any type of wood. Always had rocks. So I am not sure if this is normal. I did soak the wood for about 2 hours prior to put into the aquarium. Was this enough ?

Thanks in advance for your advice.
