Schistura balteata

Since adding eight Schistura balteata to my River Tank, I have noticed changes in their colouration. Here is a photo of what they normally look like:

And here is a photo of one of two fish that have 'lost' the central vertical stripe pattern below the dorsal:

The fish that do not have the pattern appear much more dominant. Does anyone know if this is a sexual difference that occurs as they mature, or whether it is just a dominance thing as I suspect? They are about 2" long.
