how to deal with an 8ft tank with a hole?

i'm thinking of buying an 8'x2'x2' (240 gallon) tank from a local pet store.i will be combining all my loaches and rainbows from 3 tanks to make the ultimate loach tank. the tank was ordered from the factory with a custom 5' circle near the center of the tank for a custom filtration system the customer had. apparently they drilled the hole in the wrong spot so the customer didnt want it and the tank has been sitting at the store for some time. they offered me a good deal on the tank but im scared to deal with it,

how can i plug this hole? i was thinking of getting a bigger square piece of tempered glass and siliconing the heck out of it. i doubt it would leak but im concerned with the integrity of the glass. i could use the hole for filtration somehow, but i have no idea how to approach it.

also whats the best way to filter the tank? was thinking of custom job with a pond pump or something. i could get 2 fluval 404s cheap off ebay and then throw on my extra 204.

i heard about emma turners filtration on her 8 foot tank. i like the idea of the reverse osmosis and automated water changes. anyone have any idea how she set that up?

any advice would be greatly apprciated. thank you.
