Spiky loach!

Since adding the 2 new huge Clowns to my shoal, there has been a bit of unrest in the ranks! Interestingly, the Alpha (who's always been a fiesty girl and is about 9") has become slightly more subdued and takes care not to argue with the largest of the 2 new ones (the 11.5" one, which is probably female). However, the other of the new additions (the 10.5" one, probably a male), although very shy at first, has started to look after himself a bit more. The other evening, he was arguing with the 11.5" female, and he raised up just one of his two suborbital bifid spines, which I managed to catch on camera:

There was a lot of barging around the back of the tank between these two, and he continued to keep this one spine erect. The following day, the female had several substantial scratch marks on her flanks, and thankfully these are looking better already. It was amazing to see this in a Clown of this size, it is difficult to get across how dangerous his large spine looked. At one point we were worried that it was stuck in the 'out' position as he took quite some time before he put it down.
Here'a a couple of closer pics:![]()
you can just about see the large female in the background on that one.

Hope you liked the pics,
